Elaineo. In this recent climate in politics.... everyone can use prayers. I present to you the prayer plant. Probably basic, but still one of my personal favorite houseplants :D 20241103_145200.jpg
Wow, the pink veining is really intense. That picture alone is enough to make me want one.

I have some pussywillow cuttings that I rooted in a tub of water. I'm not sure what to do with them now, since I don't have a pond. Do you grow yours with potted sarrs, or is that just a temporary home?

Not sure, we're just getting started :D I will update prize list & ticket amounts when we are close to halfway through.

Challenge #4. Everybody needs a Columnea gloriosa in their plant collection. I did not know this until I received a bonus cutting alongside a few purchased plants. I sought a little guidance (as I'd never owned a columnea before), and this thing has done nothing but GROW for the past 16 months. About 4 months ago it started to bloom, and I don't think it will stop anytime soon. I was smitten at the small, dark, fuzz-covered cascading leaves, but these blooms are ridonkulously large, and it now looks like a cascade of flaming flowers. There's nothing not too like! {May require some decent humidity - it's growing in a no-drainage glass container, bottom layer of leca, sphagnum-perlite-pumice for the main media}.

I do like prayer plant, but you already earned 1 ticket for that challenge :D (each challenge only earns 1 ticket, unless stated otherwise)

Note: I am going to move all the challenges to the first page so it's easier to find them.

I purchased a cape sundew from flytrapstore. It was my second carnivorous plant. Although I do not have the original plant, as I gave it away, I have one that I started from a leaf cutting using the original plant. I love that it came well packaged, and healthy. It was also how I discovered these forums.

Very creative ad :) Unfortunately Dionaea muscipula is all one species. You are welcome to submit another entry though!
Sorry I’m having trouble finding stuff to enter here cuz a decent amount seems kinda geared towards people who have been around longer, but I enjoy the concept of the game :D I am not a prolific plant grower, so I’m hoping this next one is something more suitable. I just got it from my neighbor last month.

Meet my newest addition - an avocado tree! It was started by my neighbor from a pit, and obviously it’s quite lovely.

The first thing that makes it ideal as a plant is the fact that it’s cheap to start! If you ever buy an avocado, you can simply put 3 toothpicks into the pit, stick it in a cup with water, and make certain that the toothpicks keep it from full submersion.

It would be a great family project for anyone who has some kiddos to teach them about basic plant care!

It also looks quite fetching in my humble opinion, so even if you’re not interested in avocados, you can still have the joy of just growing these beautiful plants!

Actually from what I have read so far, using the pit growing method is more ideal for the family project/beauty end of things because it usually takes quite a long time using this method to bear fruit. It can take 15-20 years in fact! And the avocados wouldn’t necessarily be as tasty as the one you got the pit from!

Enter buying a tree from a nursery! They’re made to have much better results if you’re in it for the avocados instead of the experience. You can get a variety of different kinds, and from what I’ve read you can somewhat tailor them to your hardiness zones as there are a lot of different types.

If they seem a bit pricey for you (I’ve found anywhere from $60 - to around $200), then swerve back over to the growing from pits lane with me. You can sell some grown from pits on Etsy for about $15 - $20. It won’t take very long to get yourself the upgrade!

Oh I guess I misunderstood the original rules. It said " Each completed challenge will earn one or more tickets. "
I guess I thought we could enter a challenge a couple of times. Yikes my bad??

Challenge 6
Some people prefer weird traps. When I first started growing carnivorous plants I realized there were so many different vfts. I made a purchase from flytrapstore.com. I joined the forum and learned alot about caring for these wonderful plants. My microdent was one of my first and favorite vfts :D

Ah, I'll be more specific in the future. To make things fair, let's keep this one limited to 1. There will be similar challenges coming up ;)
