I have a Sarracenia that’s a S. venosa or a S.rosea. Because their leaves can look the same, the only option to identify it is from the flower. S.purpurea venosa has red petals while S.rosea has pink petals. Fortunately my plant is making a flower. I am trying to take as many pictures so in the end I will have something that looks like a time lapse. When it flowers should I cut it so it doesn’t spend energy to make seeds or is it better to let it? (I don’t want seeds)

Wait until after the petals fall off, then cut it.

Almost there! The flower appears to be very short. I think I can see the petals!

And it is… a S.purpurea venosa! The flower petals are red and for some reason asymmetrical but the flower is very beautiful! And it is bigger than what I thought.

The thicker, shorter, upper parts are the sepals. The thinner, longer, lower parts are the petals. Take a look at the Sarracenia flower cross-section here.

I know that the thin ones are the petals. What I meant by asymmetrical is that some petals are smaller and some larger. Anyway, Sarracenia flowers are fascinating! They sure are weird but at the same time they look familiar. But I can’t remember the thing that looks like it. Maybe just cartoon flowers or something else?
