I have a white kinda haze along the top of the rock and the peat. Is this bad for them? is it mold? minerals? everyone seems to be happy still but want to stay on top of any issues.

Not really sure as I cant blow the picture up enough to tell, but its likely to be mould by the look. Can you increase ventilation?

I agree with Steve, it does look like mold.
However, will it easily rub off/become dislodged with some gentle violence directed at it? Or does it take some moderate violence?
Then, if anything comes off, does it stay chunky and hard, perhaps go powdery? Or is is pliable and easily rolled into a ball?

ok so I tried rubbing the rock on an empty spot and I guess since it's damp it just rubs into the rock and turns a light grey. I cant tell if its powdery, chalky or what. Do I need to let the rock dry out and try again?

That's the stuff. That's ready to use, but everything in moderation. Just lightly hit the mold, avoid the plants, and your pingdom should be OK.

With this set up I have to water from the top, but I try to pour it in a spot with no cps. I only use water from our zero water filter and use the tds meter it comes with.

However HollyHock just advised me The white stuff on her ping rocks is just minerals. YAY!

Thank you for the info, I wonder if I should be misting the Sphag too?

We do filter first through Pur then filter through the zero water. No spring around and in an apartment so difficult to collect rain water but I could try. I could go back to buying water for them. Please let me know your thoughts Jeff, you're the first one who seems to know the zero water filter.
