I heard that star moss, to a pot of CPs, is something similar to what the mange is to animals' hair, so I'll pass.

I've tried to grow star moss in a decorative pot for months with no luck. It's just a tiny little clump, about a square inch, in the center of the pot that refuses to spread.
So, how do I go about getting some moss from you to add to the deco pot?

The moss is tough and will spread with higher moisture. They will root about 1 inch into soil which prove troublesome for younglings but hasn’t kill any plants. We will use the seed bank method. I pm you my address and you send me a SASE.

Sounds good, I'll look for the PM. Btw, I'm trying to grow the moss in a peat/Perlite mix. Given that this moss has roots, should I be using Miracle-gro or other fertilized mix? Thanks very much!

In my experience it doesn't need fertilising, in my bogs its 4" high, deeply rooted and spreading like the plague. I dread to think what a rich soil mix wold do for it.

Darn right it's easy to grow! it is invasive, its taking over my bogs. This is what it grows into, this is 4" long and as you can see is taller than the Sphagnum which it is slowly crowding out, overgrowing and killing

I brought a small plug back home with me one day, but something about it seemed..."off". So, I stuck it in a little pot and isolated it from my other plants. I did not know what it was at the time, but knew it had roots so it was a vascular plant...not really kin to sphagnum moss. A little later I ID'd it. It was doomed to the searing south Alabama sun and unceremoniously buried in the big green can. Here's a few shots I took of it in the wild. Well, I *think* it was star moss...it certainly had a root system, was dry(ish) with a woody-like stem. Looked cool, though...but, I didn't want to invite the monster into the room.

Damn they look like pine seedlings at first glance…would not keep those for sure lol could be a giant form of star moss? The ones I have originated from florae and red leaf, in my environment they grow into a soft 2-3 in thick carpet and does not appear to have a clear upper hand against the sphagnum at this moment.

I took a screenshot and checked it on PlantNet. I think we're looking at Northern Fir Moss in the pic that Steve linked.
