100% not alata, so its ventrata.

This is alata ***update this is ventrata. Person who sold it to me made an error in their text to me***

Unfortunately, I don’t have a ventrata (that was labeled as such) so I can’t compare. But my alata definitely is an alata per Kenny Coogan. ***update, it was mislabeled and is in fact a ventrata***

It is a ventrata. The plant was among the first mass produced clone distributed across the world, with the wrong label. I bet it came from a garden center or grocery store. You would never find reputable carnivorous plant specialists selling it as alata.

There were many old posts questioning the plant's identity everywhere including this forum that can be referred to. A quick way to tell apart is, when the plant is labelled alata, but the influence of ventricosa is obvious, it is a ventrata. Narrow waistline at the middle and wide peristome are ventricosa traits.

Yes and don’t forget that a common distinctioning clue is that Ventrata has the ruffled peristome while most alata don’t (most because I haven’t seen an alata that does have a ruffled peristome but who knows what’s out there!)

Are you suggesting that the alata I photographed is not one because its peristome has ruffles ?

No! I’ll taking your word for it. I do wonder though, how you distinguished your’s as I just do a ruffle check.

The guy who sold it to me is the ICPS Education Director, so I kind of thought the chances of him making a mistake was slim. However, mistakes do happen so I have reached out to him with photos asking.

He wrote back. mine is Ventrata. now I have to update my label and go on the hunt for an alata.

100% ventrata coming from a nepenthes grower. The alata is a very rare species, I've only seen the real plant for sale online, and it is almost always out of stock. The parents for ventrata is ventricosa x alata, actually I forgot if it was ventricosa x alata or alata x ventricosa.

Good luck with finding one. An alata, I only found one for sale and it was expensive and out of stock, I forgot the site name. I've never succeeded in finding one for sale.
