Not sure what this is, but being fairly new to Butterworts, Would like a 2nd opinion.

What is it and what is it's purpose?

I absolutely love my butterwort so anything random happening makes me nervous.

Thank you for all your help.

It does look a little bit too peaty. Maybe whenever you give it a repot, add more sand and/or perlite.

The peat may make it too acidic, and cause problems with rot. I would add more sand, perlite, pumice, lava rock, etc.

It’s a root, it might get in the soil, or stay aerial, it doesn’t matter. But they media does look too peaty, I ise a mix of perlite, vermiculite, and a tiny bit of peat. Too much peat makes it hard to keep moisture at levels the pings like. If its wet, it’s probably too wet and if you let it dry out, it’s too dry, so the other ingredients help keep it in the middle. Too much moisture will cause brown heart rot in pings. Do you know what species it is? Some like more wet than others. Looks like it could be a Moranensis type.
