What temperatures are needed for germination in water? The same as if the seeds were planted in media? I know this varies for different species.

I’d say the same temperatures as when sown in soil. (unless you sow your drosera in extreme temperatures)

Yup, same as soil. Mine are usually between 67 and 70 F. in winter, higher of course the rest of the year.

Put some d. spatulata seeds in water today...

Nice. If the seeds aren't very old, you should see germination within a week.

They're fresh. Seeds I got as D. spatulata (Gold Coast, AU) recently from a trade with evenwind. It's an interesting spat: https://carnivorousplantresource.com/pr ... -au-seeds/

Some signs of germination today. They took a while probably because my windowsill is quite cold.

Just make sure not to wait too long before planting, because the plants may get tangled up when the roots start getting bigger.

Going to pour them out onto soil tomorrow. They seem to be growing slowly in water (probably a nutrient deficiency). Wish me luck.

I found 2 problems
1. when pouring out the water and seeds, it stirs up the soil, and the seeds may get buried
2. the seedlings tend to get stuck to the sides of the germination container. This is why you should probably shake them every so often.

Going to try more seeds in water. D. capensis (Bainskloof pass), D. capensis (giftberg), D. capillaris emeralds envy, and whatever other seeds I can find.

I drop them in one at a time. I usually pour out the germinated seeds into a bigger container then suck up one seedling at a time.

Do you suck them up with a pipette?

Yes, although I did use a toothpick to plant them before.

I sprout them in small deli cups, so I think sucking them up with a pipette should be quite easy. Thank you everyone.
