What does everyone recommend for water collection outdoors? I was looking to replace my in-home RO unit with a rain barrel or some type of outdoor RO unit. I would like to store 40 gallons +. I live in the US. I recently had my roof replaced, so I’m not sure water collected from the gutters would be suitable.

Use a rain barrel hooked up to a downspout and test the TDS before using. If it's been a while since it rained, then you might want to see about bypassing the barrel for the first 10 minutes to get all the dust and such washed off the roof kept out of the barrel.

Thank you. A rain barrel would be easiest, just worried about the new roof.

The new roof shouldn't be an issue, just allow the rain to wash away and dirt, dust, debris, bird poop, etc. before you collect any water.
Easy peasy.
