My "Coppertop" was the first one to pitcher this year, actually had two open within a day. Followed by a (Giant Fuzzy Pink leuco x (oreo x flava)) x "Berry Pastry" and RFN leuco x "Adrian Slack".
In the three days since it opened, the big Coppertop already has a four inch pile of bugs down its gullet.
If they all eat the bugs like that, it's gonna be a good year.

And in contrast, my sarrs are still napping in the fridge. Temps have been so erratic. One day in the 70's, a day or two later in the 40's with below freezing some nights.

Thank you. Unfortunately it wasn't able to show it's full potential as the wind blew the stalk over and it snapped. I stood it up to snap a quick pic.

Really liking this. RFN Leuco x "Adrian Slack" and "Coppertop" doing their thing.

It's really a beautiful sight seeing all those bugs you can't stand being digested. 8-) Unfortunately, it will probably take a while before I get open pitchers on my sarracenias. One pot got flipped upside down, and the growing new pitchers broke/cracked at the base. Another pot got used as a sandbox, and the sarracenia ended up being uprooted, except the roots stayed in the pot and not on the plant. :? (I have three sarrs: one with broken pitchers, one with no roots, and another one that thankfully wasn't touched.) At least I can look at your guys' pitchers and enjoy seeing all those bugs where they belong. :D

That is so frustrating. I went through those struggles with the tree rats last year. This years premier pest is ... toads! They like to burrow under the sphagnum in my bogs. I wouldn't mind so much, but they aren't put off by having to uproot a ping or sundew in the process. Time to break out the red pepper flakes.

When I was moving this year, one of the developing oreo pitchers managed to break off in the car. I had to wait another month for the next pitcher to grow. Patience.
Panman, does red pepper really deter toads? :? You might have to try dancing ____ under the full moon, with burning sage. Maybe substitute the sage with red pepper.

It has worked in the past. We will have to see how these toads handle it. I did move the pots around a bit and I didn't find one in its resting place, so I think I may have figured them out.
