Hey guys, all my sarracenia are waking up buy my Purpureas are late. Is there a reason why. They took temperatures down to 5 degrees Fahrenheit outside in January and they where covered in burlap and frost fabric at the sides of the pot to protect the roots. And they are waking up for the springtime and making flowers.

This is the plant in April 12th.

They take cues from nature on when to wake up, so it's doing it at exactly the right time for it. Plus, purps are a little slower, so they're always fashionably late as compared to other Sarrs.

Yeah, they are flowering size plants. This plant flowered last late July and mid August. They usually flower in May and June.

Sarracenia purpurea ssp. purpurea isn't fooled by a little sign of spring. Being a northern plant, it's all too familiar with late-season cold snaps. I'm not surprised that it held back for a few more weeks just to make sure that winter was over. Mine are lagging noticeably behind my ssp. venosa plants.
