My bio teacher game me some soil by SCOTT'S and it said it had sphagnum peat moss perlite and plant food and NO ferlilizer. WOuld that be fine?

Nope. The "plant food" part will kill your plants.

You need peat moss and pool sand. Add distilled water and mix (half and half). That's the easiest.

You should just look for peat moss. Then pool sand. Plain. With nothing :)
