One of the big disadvantages of using sphagnum moss as a growing medium is the hassle with untangling the roots when repotting.

Could this be mitigated by simply chopping up the sphagnum into ~1 inch pieces? Has anyone tried this and does it work?

Good idea, don't know why it wouldn't work - got to be easier to untangle - one way to find out - lol

chopped is good for seeds as it provides a more uniform growing platform than regular that will become lumpy.
