For those lucky enough to live in the UK, the new David Attenborough series “the Green Planet” has a few carnivorous plants in the trailer. I was lucky enough to watch the first episode tonight, and saw some Nepenthes when they visited Borneo. I believe it was a bicalcarata. I couldn’t capture the shot when they showed the fangs, but here it is nonetheless.

For episode 2, next Sunday, they showed Venus Fly Traps as well as Drosera in the preview. Can’t wait!

when they do, it will be interrupted in unplanned spots by the commercials that are non-existent in the UK transmission. I'd gladly pay BBC like I do for Netflix or Hulu if they would only make their shows accessible to me without interruptions.

Unfortunately the series is not yet available here in Australia. I'm finding it hard to wait patiently!
I did find a few snippets on youtube. Have a look at this one about Neps : https://youtu.be/vM4CL8FZKog

The whole issue of zones, regions, etc… in the 21st Century is so bewildering to me. If I want to pay BBC a license fee, and they already have the technology to stream it, why limit it because we live in another country ?
In the days of VHS tapes, I remember having to spend lots of money on a machine to play Doctor Who tapes filmed in PAL on my NTSC television. Then when DVDs came out, they decided to add stupid region codes, so I had to spend money on a way to make them region free. Now, in this digital age, we still have these self imposed barriers to entertainment and education. Maybe one day we will see a time when we can just pay to watch what we want, at the same time, together…

And of course, there is always a way to circumvent regions (like using a high quality VPN)… but I’d rather do things on the up and up. If they would take my money…
