Potentially stupid question, what do you do with a gemmae? Plant it like seeds?

Yes, you lay them on top of the soil and give them humidity. They will "sprout" and then you can acclimate them.

I clicked that link and was reading and it says growing them from Gemmae are easier than growing them from seed. I always assumed the gemmae was their seed?

Gemmae are modified leaves for asexual reproduction (cloning), while seed is for sexual reproduction to increase genetic diversity. Pygmy Drosera can produce both, although seed is considerably rarer, and most species are self-incompatible (with a few exceptions). Plant gemmae similar to Drosera seed and keep humid while they sprout (particularly for species with scale-like gemmae such as D. nitidula).

Gemmae are clones of the plant they come from. As Nep said, It is WAY easier to grow them from gemmae. Pygmy sundew seeds are like dust, they are tiny.
