anyone can recognize this white substance building on tips of my sphagnum moss? is it some kind of fungus? or material build ups?
some seedlings in the same containers just damped off and died, I am not sure if this is connected.
thanks.

Minerals building up from where the water evaporates off the tips. Flush with distilled water to remove the minerals still in solution, then only use distilled or rain water after that.

Hi chef, that makes perfect sense, thank you very much for your kind reply, weird because i have been watering only with distilled water, maybe those minerals were already existed in the sphagnum because i recall i didnt wash it first when i prepared the medium. cheers.

That's probably exactly the source. I rehydrate and rinse my moss in tap water (mine is 100 to 110 ppm), then rinse in distilled water. Saves me a little distilled for the plants I use it on.
