Hey all,

Got 2 adult seedgrown sarrs back in August, and since then they have not been producing any pitchers. In the alloted amount of time, the pitchers have all died off, leaving 2 red rhizome bulbs with a bunch of spikes on them. Is this normal? The "spikes" look like tiny forming phyllodia which have stayed the same size since I got the plants.

Soil: Peat/perlite, LFSM top dressing

Light: 10 hrs/day of natural sun (less now since it's winter)

Water: very wet. It's been raining hard for the past month or so and none of my plants have protection, so it's like a swamp in my grow rack RN

All opinions/ replies are appreciated,
Max

They go through shock too, that's what they're experiencing. The red spikes are where pitchers will form.
Either keep it warm and well lit to get them growing maybe skip dormancy. Or put them to bed for the winter and wait for them to wake up next Spring.

I got some Flava clones last year that sat idle until the next growing season. Some of them seem to do that when they're shipped out while others grow right away.

I got the plants from a local grower, and they are in the same pot and soil from them. I'm about 90 percent sure it's not shock. They have produced 1 pitcher per plant this season.

The pitcher-less one depicted in the first pic was definitely a purp mix, other than the fact that the pitchers were a bit taller and seemed to have a bit of Flava in them.

The other one with 1 remaining pitcher is doing something similar, other than the fact that I don't know the species and the phyllodia are a bit more noticeable.

Shifting its environment probably did something but I believe it'll grow significantly next season. Of those flava I grew, I had a couple put out *ok* pitchers, a couple good ones and I thought it was disappointing but when I compared the size of the rhizome to what it was last year, it grew exponentially. So this upcoming season I think there'll be a lot more going on. Good thing about leucophylla is it'll keep growing after the others go dormant so it'll probably be very nice at the end

This is what they look like when dormant? My other ones (a bit smaller) have phyllodia that are a bit bigger and a lot faster growing...

By the looks of the pitcher, would you say this is a Leuco cross?

Looks like there is leuco in the plant but I couldn't say what the parentage is. Looks like there could be Alata in there as well. It kinda reminds me of my Judith Hindle with a different color scheme

I wouldn't let them be sopping wet all the time during dormancy. That encourages rot to set in. Here in eastern North Carolina. we've had some seesawing weather over the past couple weeks: warms up to the low 60's°F (16-18°C), rains a bit, wind shifts out of the northwest, and temperatures come crashing down. Last night we dropped to 24°F (-4°C), and I had to assemble my coldframe for the first time this season. I opened it during the day, but I closed it again tonight. Thursday night will be okay without the cover, but the temperature is dropping again Friday night.

After the rain (about 0.5 inch / 12mm), I drained all of my trays before the cold weather arrived. I didn't want the plants sitting in icy water "up to their shins". They're damp enough for 3-4 days before I'll give them more water. I've done this for years with my Sarracenia, and I have experienced very few cases of rot. Mike Wang found this to be the key to success for growing S. leucophylla (see the forum post here for the whole story).

Some will look like this. Other flavas will keep phyllodia throughout the winter.

@MikeB I don't use trays... it just rains way too much out here. Any suggestions on what to cover them up with?
