One of my sarracenia died of rhizome rot. When I first inspected their pot I had some hope seeing that the roots were quite healthy. They reached all the way down to the bottom of the pot and even began to root bound the soil. The soil was moist and not sopping wet.
Not even it’s divisions survive.
At least, I now know what the symptoms of rhizome rot is and I was left with one plant left. It’s pretty healthy. I just took out any old growth attached to it and sprayed some neem oil. I even gave it new soil. A new mix of peat, perlite and sand. I don’t even know if that was necessary. The old soil was still good. Only a year old.
Here’s my repotting. I tried to make it as close to what it was before but the rhizome is so tiny. The growth point is above ground so I think that’s good? Leaves are leaning but I think that’s normal? Made the mix a little bit more wet to help it recover. I just put it in it’s same old spot. Hopefully no issues from here on.
Feeling a little sad. I don’t know how this happened. The tds of the water in the tray is low and the soil wasn’t overly wet either. They also grew in the same position with lots of sun
So when I finally separated the two plants and peeled back the tiny rhizome from the affected plant. I was pretty disheartened to see this brown rot.
So I started cutting away with my multi tools knife. Disinfecting with rubbing alcohol each time. I was hoping that I’ll be able save something but the rot has taken all the roots with it. It was rotted all the way into the core.
The whole plant is dead
