How's my VFT???#391672

Hello guys, just bought my very first VFT last Sept 26, repotted it using Canadian peat moss and topping it with sphagnum moss. The pot is placed on a water tray 24/7
First two pics was when I bought it. Tried to acclimatized it and a lot of the traps from under turned black as the day progressed and I have to cut it all out.
After cutting off all the dead traps and placing it on full sun the whole day leaf burn still happening.

We'll try to help you. What type of water are you using and how much sun is it getting? Also, are you sure the peat moss you used does not contain any fertilizer?

As to your concern about the leaf burn, the plants are greenhouse grown, so pretty much any sun will burn them. Just stay the course, keep it moist with distilled or rain water, give it AM direct sun (outdoors), then shaded from then on, and you'll be fine. All of the existing leaves will likely burn off, but the new growth will be acclimated to the new conditions and do well.

Am using bottled distilled water and with regards to sun exposure, during the first month I gradually exposed it to sunlight then starting last week it's a whole day. With the Canadian Peat Moss am not quite sure if it's fertilizer free. It's been a month and 5 days since I repotted it.

That looks fine although I find it funny that 'Canadian' peat moss is made in the USA. I didn't ask about the moss on top. What is it that you are using? All in all, the parameters look right but the plant is definitely not doing well. Can you pull the moss back from around the plant and show the plant at the soil level?

You say you're using bottled water, that may be an issue. Many bottled waters add sodium and other minerals for taste, but these minerals are bad for the plant. The best choice is distilled water or rain water for long term use. However, any water is better than no water, just get some distilled or rain water to flush out the minerals. You might want to check the label of the water you're using just to be sure it doesn't have added minerals.

That last picture of the plant was helpful. It looks like it is planted at a good depth. You said it is in full sun. I am assuming that you are saying full, direct sun. You didn't indicate where you are located. As the northern hemisphere is moving into winter, flytraps will start producing smaller low growing leaves as the prepare for dormancy. The new growth looks healthy so it may be okay. Watch the new leaves and see if anything starts happening with them. If they open up into small traps then it looks like your plant is just going to sleep.

Am from the Philippines and we only have 2 seasons, wet and dry season. Will it still be experiencing dormancy?

Okay, then dormancy isn't the issue. You will need to do some research on providing dormancy in a tropical setting or on how to skip dormancy. Both require some effort on your part. The leaves really do look like a mineral burn so it is either the water, the peat, or the moss. Since the burn started before your repot, I don't think it is either the peat or the moss. The only think I can think of is that there are minerals added to the water to make it 'drinking' water. If you are able to get some rain water, I would flush the pot with rain water 6 or 7 times to get any minerals out and then continue to water with rainwater. If you could put it outside in the rain, so much the better.

The word 'drinking' in the label doesn't sit right with me. I think the user is right with his guess as you don't normally drink true distilled water as it messes up your salt level ie electrolyte. So the bottle being a distilled drinking water seems like a fancy way of saying filtered water. I'm willing to bet it has minerals added for enhanced taste etc...

Go get TRUE distilled water ie no 'drinking' word should be on the labels.
