I got my Nepenthes truncata "Titan" × truncata "Tyrant" last December on the 14th. I ordered the medium size. Today it has grown very well and doesn't look like it will slow down anytime soon. It out growing all the other plants in my tent.

I have been putting one fertilizer pellet in each pitcher and placed nutricote in the substrate to see how the plant would handle it. So far so good. I used nutricote over osmocote because I understand it to be of a higher quality with better slow release control.

Thank you. I'm hoping it produces better pitchers as the plant ages. I'm sure it will.

When I had my guppy tank set up I had hundreds of them. I didn't know what to do with them all. The were breeding so fast.

Probably about 6. I didn't want to cause damage but at the same time there's no way these plants grow in sterile conditions from from organic matter and nutrients in jungles. So I figured some nutrients wouldn't hurt.

I'm thinking it's getting close to repoting this plant. It's currently in a 7inch pot and the truncata is growing low and starting to overhang the pot its in. I think it's eventually become heavy on one side and fall over.

I'm not sure what size I should upgrade to. 7inch to gallon? Would that be too big of a jump? This truncata drinks a lot so the current media dries out pretty fast. I'm also thinking that I wouldn't have to worry about upgrading to a larger pot anytime soon.

Well I don't think there's a rule as long as you are more careful about watering. Of your mix is good that'll likely be a non-issue. The more those roots spread and go lower the bigger its going to get though so I'd expect it to overhang the gallon pot before you know it. also you might not want to spend 200 bucks to repot in the future

Well I went ahead and transplanted it in the larger pot. I'm trying a different media to allow for more airflow to the roots. The truncata was growing in 50/50 mix of akadama and pumice. Now I'm going with coco coir chips. I raised it very well with RO/DI water to remove any salts.

I positioned the plant in a way that it would grow across the top layer of the media for more support should it become too heavy to support itself.

Would be nice it it allowed me to train it to grow upwards.

Yeah, they have a tendency to bend if you let them. My ampullaria was content with growing sideways I had to replant it and change the direction and I guide it up with a stake. Still likes to act weird even now lol. Staking with bamboo might not be a bad idea; it just depends on what you're going for. I let the next node begin to grow before I bend it but I give it room and don't force it into a perfect line. I use this elastic rubber thing from amazon to keep it from cutting through. So far it's been doing alright. That's an impressive plant, it grows like this crazy hybrid I have. I like the akadama idea too. I've thought about it a lot because I do some bonsai (kinda) work. I think there's a lot more flexibility with carnivorous plants than we know because we accept the norm. LFS for Nepenthes. Cephalotus 60/40 sand/peat and the like. I just threw a P. Gigantea pulling outside because it survived and formed with no media on a table after a couple weeks, just to see what it'd do. It's still alive with 6 hours of sun in Florida. You'll hear people say they can't grow in conditions like that. Hope you keep this thread updated from time to time. I'd like to see how this one turns out. Good luck!
