So I usually stratify the sarracenia seeds on paper towel. Slightly moist, not ringing wet.
Never had any issues. This time I decided to use a light misting of Captan fungicide (1 TBL per gallon of distilled water) instead of pure distilled water.
A month or so later when I took them out of the refrigeration, the paper towel and ziplock bag with the water was fine. The one where I used the Captan was black (I assume with mold).

Anyone have any ideas why? and can I just soak the seeds from the Captan in more Captan for a bit, and use them, or are they toast ?
thanks

Lots of people do exactly what you did, spritz them with a fungicide prior to fridge strat, but I haven't heard of what you're experiencing. However, the white paper towels you get from the store seem to exhibit more instances of mold than the rough, brown ones you find in the dispensers in many bathrooms.
Perhaps you could take the affected seeds and move them to a clean paper towel and resume the strat. Unless the strat is done of course.

I've had paper towels turn black around the areas where the seeds were but it hasn't effected how they germinate.

That's probably the cause right there. Most people stratify seeds 4 weeks, maybe 6.
