I'm about to order some Phytocaps, the vented ones for baby food jars. I'm a bit confused about the vents. I thought the cultures were completely sealed off from the outside world? but I read that they also need vents? So if i do use bigger jars and seal the lids additionally with parafilm, do these need vents adding and micron tape?

@Matt, Ah ok, so even if I buy some jam jars with good lids like I posted once before, then use PVC or parafilm to seal them even further then I should be golden? What's the benefit of vented lids? and if I'm going to buy a few phytocaps, then might I just as well get the vented version? or is it better to stick with no vent. sorry a lot of questions, lol.

Yep, for sure.

From what I recall, the ventilations helps the plants get the air exchange they need to grow better. But I've never had any issue with sealing the jars up tight, not venting them at all, and even putting them inside plastic baggies.

So I just want to order an electronic pH meter from Amazon and maybe a scalpel. I have a small pressure cooker here but it has no psi gauge or temp meter... but don't want to fork out for a big pot just yet. A also think Ill build a glove box like this guy is using in the video sowing orchid seed. Been watching his series which is giving me a plan. I think I'll make a similar glove box but chop the bottom out a little and silicone on some clear perspex at a 45o angle to give better viewing.
