These Sarracenia were sold as the “lemon” variety originally sold from Meadowview Biological Research Station. ( http://www.pitcherplant.org/Online-Cat ... ivars.htmlSarracenia "Lemon"
A hybrid of S. flava and S.alata with beautiful, large, lemon colored flowers.)

Watching the tall pitchers come up I noticed a twisting and interestingly shaped part above where the lid will form. Has anyone else seen this before on this or another Sarracenia ?

I saw this post a while back and thought your plant looked so neat with that growing 'twist' and then I realized where I had seen it before. This is a Leah Wilkerson hybrid, and it has strong 'ridges' on the pitcher as it is first forming, which seems to related to that twist (although I'm going to pay attention to the new growths on other plants this season).

While I was looking around the pots, I found this little beast, which has taken 'twist' to a whole new level - think this one might actually be doing a jig.

Usually when I see pitchers leaning to and fro, I find pests. But this one looked clean. First spring with this one, so I'll have to check back next year to determine if it's a consistent growth pattern.

Mites? If you have a microscope I'd check the soil around the growth point

Do you mean mites like spider mites? Conditions aren't too conducive to them (I think). No microscope, but I'll keep an eye on the new growths. Two of the four look totally normal/straight.

Also, to clarify, I think the top twist from Supercazzola's original post is normal growth, as with my LW-hybrid.

Not spider mites, but I have had some mite damage look similar. I'll have to check my notes to get the species right.

I've had mites on my Drosera but never sarrs. Bio Advance 3 in 1 takes care of it perfectly.

Those twisty new pitchers are perfectly normal, a good percentage of my flavas are making them this spring. When they pop they straighten out after a bit. Not caused by any sort of pest, just the plant being weird :P.

In my case it deformed the development of the hood, bent it at an angle and triggered off season growth of phylodia. I have an old post about it somewhere on here
