It looks like my drosera binata is starting to grow a flower. Should I let it flower or cut it off? If I cut it off is there a way to propagate the stem cuttings? If I leave them on and let it flower can they self pollinate and would I be able to get seeds and grow them? It also looks like my other plant is flowering too, but it is not as far into the process.

let the flower stem grow to like 5inches then cut it and put it in some water.

@optique have you had success with this? I'm genuinely curious. I have never gotten my binata to propagate via flower stalk cuttings.

I just dropped them in the water trey of a peat/perlite pot in a west facing window. At some point i noticed the peaking out of the trey so potted them to give more light.

I've tried multiple times with my Marston Dragon and had no luck.

Have any of you had success with growing them from seed?

Seed and leaf cuttings, they will not self pollinate. If you want to get seeds from that flower stalk you'll need a genetically different plant.

I have a second plant that is growing a flower too, but it is not as far along in the process, so I don't know if they will flower at the same time.

At one point we did have binata T-Form that would self pollinate, hopefully we will again. However, for the rest of the binata family, it's pretty well set that you need two genetically different plants flowering at the same time to get seed by cross pollination.

I have great luck with leaf cuttings in water and I put flower stalks on peat/perlite mix and they seem to always strike easily. Both regular binata and extreama.

I've only been trying water for the flower stalks. I will have to try peat.

I think my extrema is going to try to flower soon. It's stopped putting up new leaves which it usually only does when it wants to flower.
