Hi everyone! I am new to carnivorous plant world and I'm not sure if my Venus flytrap is doing poorly. I have two Venus flytraps and one pitcher plant. My pitcher plant is growing beautifully but my venus fly traps keep turning black or have green growth but never grows into an actual trap. I use distilled water and are growing in a soil meant for carnivorous plants with moss on top which is also meant for carnivorous plants. They get artificial light for 10 hours a day which is working well for my succulents, house plants, and pitcher plant. I also try not to overwater them but know they like damp soil. I appreciate any feedback you could give. I tried looking at past posts on this forum but none of the pictures look like mine. Thank you so much for any help you can give!

Okay. So your pitcher plant can be grown as a house plant. It likes reduced light. Artificial light for 10 hours a day is not enough for a flytrap. They are outdoor plants that naturally receive very bright light for an extended period of time. They need 4 to 6 his of direct, unobstructed sunlight. You may try 12 to 16 his of artificial light but they are better grown outside.

Thank you Panman for your help! I will try giving them more time in the light. I live in the upper Midwest which gets very cold in fall, winter, and spring so I worry about placing him outside. I will try your suggestion! :)
