I bought this mature FTS Flaming Lips back in late October, it pretty much went right into dormancy. Cleaned the dead traps off it and put it outside. I am not seeing much of anything there. Will it come back?

That's not looking good. Pull back some of the moss and see if you can find a white rhizome. If you can, it may have a chance. If it is all black then I am afraid it is a goner.

I found the tiniest piece of white. I still think it is a goner. If sucks as this was my first plant. I was so hoping to see it grow real big this summer. All my other plants made it through dormacy.

Wouldn't a mature plant have a pretty good sized rhizome? Where would it have gone? It was kept moist all winter, and up until recently when the traps turned black, it still looked OK. I am very disappointed.

Disappointed in myself for not seeing the early signs. I really thought it was doing well, and just dormant.

Sorry for your loss. It does look like it is a goner, but the only way to know for sure is to uproot it at this point. If there is any firm, white tissue left, it will grow back but you'll need to be sure to clean away anything that looks brown.

If you don't see any white rhizome, it likely got crown rot at some point over the winter, which is a common occurrence for new growers because most keep their plants far too wet and in sub-optimal lighting conditions. And then when problems do start, most new growers aren't experienced enough to recognize that there's an issue until it is too late.

But it is all a learning process, so don't get down on yourself. I've probably killed tens of thousands of flytraps over the years and, even with all of the experience I have growing these awesome plants almost exclusively as my job for the last 10 years, I still kill some every year. It happens to even the best of us!

EDIT: If you're willing to pot it yourself and pay for shipping, I can send you another FTS Flaming Lips free of charge. Shoot me an email at matt@flytrapcare.com if you're interested!
