So I follow a lot of CP folks via Facebook groups and this one lady named Maggie Chen had some stands for her CPs.
I wanted something similar but also smaller. So I took a look at her design, then some others on the internet, and then came up with this. My requirements were simple
(1) fits a single 10x20 tray inside (and hence 8 pots).
(2) the tops of my 5x5x7 square pots would be close to even with the top of the stand.
(3) it was portable (with wheels).
(4) wasn’t too expensive to build and didn’t require some crazy tools or woodworking experience.
(5) had space under where I could hang a Nepenthes.
So here is what I came up with. I will protect the wood with something before I place it outside.
Thoughts ? I only had 4 pots handy for the photos

Yeah, around 65 USD for the wood. I already had the screws and casters. I could write up my bill of material and cut lengths, but I figured folks may or may not want the same dimensions.

For my design, I used
  • Two 8’ long 1”x4”
  • Three 8’ long 1”x6”
  • Four 8’ long 2”x4”
All of mine were plain pine, because I plan on protecting it with a sealer or paint or polyurethane.

If you’re really interested. Here is how I did it:

The top rail is just to trim it up, and is (2) 18” long (longer side) pieces mitered at 45 degrees and (2) 29” long (longer side) pieces also mitered at 45 degrees.

The top “box” is made from 1x6 and is (2) 12.5” long and (2) 22” long pieces, with the bottom composed of 11” long pieces. I chose to make my bottom solid, but then will drill holes in it for drainage. If I had to do it over again, I would just make gaps between the pieces, like on a deck.

The vertical frame is made from 2x4 and you need (8) pieces 36” long.

Finally, the bottom support was made out of 1x6 cause I had leftover, and again is (2) pieces 12.5” long and (2) pieces 22” long.

Hope that helps.

Are you selling because you’re moving, or you mean you’re selling through Facebook just as you get divisions?

As an aide, I wound up making a total of five of the stands, and actually think I need more. The bottom isn’t idea for getting full sun, but works as a place to keep supplies and plants that need acclimation to the sun.

Do you collect water from your roof? I saw that barrel connected to your gutters and wondered if it was safe for your plants. Also, you’re lucky your pool is covered, common black grackles live in some pine trees around me and they get their babies’ poop, put in in their mouths, and dive bomb every pool in my neighborhood.

Yes. I saw Apollyon mention it shouldn’t come off the roof but I’ve had no issues. My TDS hovers around 10-12. I’ll eventually switch to RO system but waiting on the summer rains to give me some relief until I do.

I've seen her collections, too. They look amazing! Following her example, I decided to sell my collections on Facebook. I love to make various decorative things from wood, for a long time, I have accumulated many products of this kind and I decided to create an account on Facebook, and to sell them. If you have many crafts, then don't throw them away, sell them.

As much as I want to be handy I'm not. And my hubbies to do list is very long at the moment haha so I found one on Amazon for $99. Added a coat of stain and then realized my trays don't fit. Thankfully the lip hangs over the edge. Not sure if I need to find a new solution but for now it works!! Thanks for the inspiration to do it!!
