Hi,
I have been growing my CPs in a pure long fibered sphagnum moss mix for as long as I remember,since that’s the only thing readily available in my area, but recently on YouTube I have seen growers use a peat,perlite,pumice and coarse sand to a 1:1:1:1 ratio mix. At first I sticked to my old mix but over time I saw that some of my Venus fly traps and sarracenia weren’t showing great results with the mix so now, I thought I’d change to the new mix most carnivorous plant growers are using... My question is that instead of coarse sand, can I buy aquarium sand from a store and wash it myself with distilled water at home and use it?

Sorry but coarse is really the way to go, aquarium sand is just too fine.

We don’t have coarse sand in our area and if we even did, English isn’t really my mother language, it’s more like a second language so if I just say “coarse sand” to the locals, they won’t understand it and I can’t translate it into my language either.

Okay, no problem, skip the sand and use a little more pumice and perlite. Same drainage but without the sand and your plants will never know the difference.
