Hello everyone, I'm just wondering if anyone who grows sarracenia have seen anything like this. I have a couple sarracenia that are coming out of dormancy but my 'Daina's Delight' seems to have a strange looking pitcher. The bottom is hardened but the top is as soft and flimsy as tissue paper! Is this going to be a problem or is this a normal spring pitcher?

Is it possible it got exposed to strong winds when it was growing ?

Not the best photo but if your new pitchers look really weird inspect the plant for sap suckers aphids ect. I always get a plant with them in the spring but if you get them quick you can take care ez and quickly

I had the same problem last spring, and it turned out that I had thrips.
Definitely take word from Supercazzola and check the plant for pests.

I checked my plant, no pests whatsoever. I did have some pretty strong winds earlier this week... Although, it was calm yesterday and this had only happened yesterday. For some odd reason, this didn't affect my 'Judith Hindle' which was growing right next to it. The top of the pitsher seems to be browning and rotting right now. Should I just chop off the top?

Could you take a closer photo of it now? I wonder if it bent over, and that cut the ability for water and nutrients to go from roots and lower sections to the top section above the fold, if the top section would die off?
Just a thought.

That sort of growth does happen from time to time usually either from pest damage or some other sort of physical trauma.

Ok, I took another photo today (zoomed in). Took a long time to upload but here it is! Suppercazzola, I did some researching (took a look at some old posts) and found that cutting the top off doesn't affect nutrient absorbtion. I guess I'll be decapitating my 'Dains's Delight'!

Oh, it looks like it got dehydrated or the leaf (aka pitcher) is dying for some other reason. Is it well watered? Do you see any signs of rot on the rhizome?

Its 100% hydrated, I keep it in a tray of water at all times. No rot either. New pitchers are coming up, I think the wind caused this pitcher to become defected. Thanks Matt.
