A few years ago when Twinkies were about to go out of business, I asked a friend from a different forum to send me some from the USA because they featured in Richie Rich comics, and the original Die Hard Movie.

I figured I was missing out on something.

Not so much it turned out.

But today, I received my second bit of snail-mail for the decade that wasn't a bill for something I owed (or junkmail), and I have to say...

I got a little excited :)

FLYTRAPCARE.COM SEEDBANK LETTER!

The adventure begins.

I took a pic :) ...

Have you seen the movie "WALL-E"? There's a scene where WALL-E unwraps a Twinkie to feed his pet cockroach. No telling how many years have passed since that Twinkie was packaged, yet it's still edible. That tells you all that you need to know about the product....

Clearly there's a new definition of "edible" that I'm not familiar with :)

Maybe I should put some Twinkies out to attract cockroaches for my VFTs :)

Life!

From what I can tell it's a Big Pink X Hercules Drosera Capensis.

Or a weed.

Actually, there are a few of them now so I think it's the real deal. I think I can even see the beginnings of sticky.

Thanks again seed bank people.

:D

Eughh.

About a month ago, we had a few days of very hot, and very humid weather. I was sick at the time, and didn't pay as much attention to my little seed raising hothouses.

We don't get a lot of humidity here, and I was watering with bought distilled water, so I dropped all the seeds over five small growhouses with plastic lids and two air vents. The air vents were open, but all were filled with white fur when I finally got out of bed.

I had a couple of the VFT seeds start to sprout the day before I got sick, and did check them every day, but the white fur hit very quickly. Like... overnight.

I took the lids off, and made sure they were all getting lots of air circulation, but as far as I can tell, nothing has survived.

You could try a cinnamon spray. It should knock down the fur and not hurt any plants that might have survived.

Looking ...thanks.

There are only a few survivors but they are transplants from a pot with a selection I bought. The were already a half inch (1.25cm) in diameter when I put them in the little grow house while I was waiting for the seeds. I'm wondering if that's where the white fuzz came from.

I've collected some seeds from a pot of assorted CPs that I bought a while back, so I'll have another go.
