Good evening.
My wife's two orange flower milkweed plants (Asclepias Tuberosa) were very productive and put out about 30 seed pods. Each pod contains about 50 seeds. I'm going to sow some, but not 1,500 seeds, I don't need that many. Maybe I'll toss some to the wind out in the country.
These plants were the most popular with the Monarch caterpillars this year, over half the caterpillars we had were on these two plants.
It's actually kind of common around here, but maybe not around your parts.
If anyone is interested in some let me know. I'll PM you my address, you send me a SASE, and I'll get you a pods worth of seeds. They need stratification, so put them 1/4 inch under the soil when you get them and wait until Spring. They're perennials, and they're tuberous, so you can thin them out, move them around, or give away as needed. Plus, you will help the threatened Monarch Butterfly.
These seeds are from me personally, not the seed bank, so they will not count as a request.
Let me know.

I might have to sail in an SASE.
Thanks
They're native to the eastern 2/3 of the US including Wisconsin, even up into Canada, so you should be good.

I get a lot of butterfly's on my plants i call "cat whiskers". the growth tip of the plant is the bloom so it never stops blooming as it grows. they are very hardy and insect resistant in severe drought they will stop blooming.

If you want some seeds let me know i will put some in my next SASE.

Before the plant matures and starts blooming a lot of people think they are pot plants. That alone gets a lot of attention.

I'll be shooting you an SASE in a couple days. I love plants that bring in butterflies and hummingbirds.

Well, it's for the wife, she wants it. Plus we're (I'm) sowing another variety this fall, and another next spring.
She wanted a butterfly garden, I'm just the muscle to do the heavy work. I'll let her pull it out when she's ready.

Hardiness does depend on the species of milkweed. Some can handle the Great White North ... others can't. But if the Chef has been growing these, then there is the chance they can handle Wisconsin. :)
