Thanks! I have more seedlings than I have room for so I might consider doing a sale/trade once they get bigger and (hopefully) more interesting.

I think I got the characteristics I was hoping for! There were a few of the cross seeds I tossed into one of my pots with some 'Big Pink' x self seeds. I noticed this guy was distinguished by some of the 'Big Pink' seedlings by its wider petioles and leaf lamina while keeping that striking red color. You can see the comparison here. I hope it maintains these traits into maturity.

Congratulations, hopefully if it maintains it’s color you can register it as a cultivar.

My macro lenses arrived, here are some germinations of the Capensis hybrid

Congrats on your seedlings! Mine have seen quite a bit of growth in the last few months. The first one is my largest and appears to have a pretty typical capensis appearance. It may have a large leaf lamina/petiole length ratio that hopefully persists as it matures but not holding my breath. The width of the leaves does appear slightly wider than in the 'Big Pink' parent but is nowhere close to 'Hercules'. The second set of photos show the redder seedlings which have taken up much more narrow leaf lamina and petiole that are starkly different from their first few leaves seen toward the bottom of the pic. I'm not a geneticist by any means but wonder if the pigment and leaf morphology genes are found close together on the same chromosome, making them more likely to be inherited together. It may also be that the allele for narrow leaves is dominant to the one for wider ones.

I had hoped so too. The genes vary from seedling to seedling so maybe you'll have better luck than I did!

The thing is, some genes can not express in first generation, so it's best to either self-pollinate it, or strengthen the target feature by pollination using red variety.

Hello friends, here is a photo of the Capensis that were born from the crossing made by DesertLlama, hugs from Brazil.
Unfortunately, I didn't find any red plants.

They look great though!
