I was potting up a new Sarracenia alabamensis ssp. alabamensis (super excited) and pulled a bit of the old, black, dried out rhizome off. There was a little white inside so I wrapped it in a wet paper towel for a couple of days, made a couple of notches in the top of it with my thumb nail (very precise) and then dropped it in a pot of LFSM. Three weeks later, I've got a new alabamensis sprouting! Wahoo!

Planning is a very strong word. I will see what I get to flower next season. This year I only had purpurea and flava. I did pinch a flower from a new leucophylla division I got so I will probably have that flower again next year. Since these are so rare, I may pollinate x self next year and then hybridized the following year. I believe hybrids don't have the same restrictions on them as the true species.

Any chance we could do a trade and you could throw in a bonus plant that may have been mentioned on Oct 6 at 1:14PM Eastern Time?

That would be a few years down the road. Next year I probably won't even repot this one. It has some time before I start making divisions. If I can get some seedlings going ...

Nice! Glad you have this one also! It's a pretty underrated sarr IMO, I like its cute little orange pitchers.

I purchased a Sarracenia x Canebrake earlier this year so I will be interested to compare the two and see what they look like.

How well does pollen from sars ship? I'd love to try making some hybrids with that "not alata" plant from a specific southern state.

We'll have to see. I don't even know if it is of age yet. I just got it. We will see next season.

Fair. I'm thinking it might hybridize nicely with psittacina, but I haven't even planted the seeds yet.

Oh, woe is me! My baby alabamensis was the victim of a heartless cutworm. After an appropriate beheading he ended up plant food for a Walmart VFT special. But, alas for my dear alabamensis, cut down so young.

That's tragic.

To continue on the idea with never throwing anything away, my alabamensis is throwing up another shoot. You just can't keep this guy down! Hopefully there are no more rogue cutworms skulking about.
