So. These orange mushrooms grow in my potted garden once in awhile. Anyone see these before?

Don't let the picture fool ya...they're small...perhaps half the size of an oblong tylenol pill.

Do you have access to a microscope? Getting a good image if the spores could help speed up an id.

I'd guess Rickenella as the genus. Does the undeeside have pores or gills?

Chances are it's still there, mushrooms are analogous to flowers. The good news is the only mushrooms I know that look anything like that are only interested in moss and will leave your carnivores alone.

I see the beginnings of a new one emerging through the moss. I'll let it get taller and examine the underside. Will report back...tomorrow ish.

For what it's worth, I have seen the exact same mushrooms show up in my bog bowl for 2 months as I tried to pick it out each and every time it popped back up.

I still stand by my earlier statement as far as genus goes. I'm no mycologist so take that with a grain of sand

it must've stowed away from the peat moss soil i bought and was sitting dormant for..................2 years since i had the soil!? they started popping up very shortly after i gave my garden pot a neem oil bath.

2 years isn't impossible, the mycelium was probably present the whole time. The neem oil was either a coincidence or triggered the fungus to fruit. The vast majority of the fungal life cycle is spent as a mass of mycelium. Mushrooms only sprout when conditions are right. Spores also have a long shelf life but I think that would be less likely if your conditions have been stable. Once two spores exchange genetic information it can take months for them to establish to the point of fruiting.
