I planted them on damp (dead) sphagnum moss, and they all took on a stack of water... like... 4 times their existing volume or so.

So now they are pearls maybe half the size of a grain of wheat, with the dark seed in the center.

Is this normal?

Can I expect them to germinate?

No, this isn't normal for cp seeds, they don't form a shell of mucilage around the seed when sown. They may still germinate, but don't expect a carnivorous plant out of it.
We have all got taken at one point or another, I also fell for the blue Venus Flytrap seeds.
Wait and see what develops, you might get some basil or something to use in a Marinara.

Thanks CefDean.

You'd think you could trust someone selling seeds for less than the cost of a postage stamp in Australia :)

Oh well.

Sorry about that. It wasn't a very useful question was it :)

The seeds were just called "venus fly trap" from memory.

They looked like this within a day or so...

I got them from BangGood I think.

I have seen the blue flytrap pics on Ebay :) (and no these were not advertised as blue. I'm guessing they would cost even more for [basil] seeds if they were going to make blue plants :)

I dont have any more of the seeds, but I'll post a pic of any basil that grows :)

Yeah, that looks like them.

They don't even look like they are going to germinate.

Worst fifty cents I ever spent :)
