I had this idea to gradually trade up from a beginner plant to a more sought after or rare species. I know it sounds a bit extreme, but if I did do this would anyone help me out in the beginning stages of trading?

In general, I think most people do that. Also there are a lot of people here that will try to help you out. You might also consider that a more common plant may also be something that someone does not have and may want, so there are likely more opportunities that you think. Just communicate well and be fair. It will happen. Also, the less common plant that you want just might be very common in another's collection and they are looking to get rid of it to make room for something else.

Here's an extreme example of what I would be trying to do. Trading a drosera census typical up to a phil falusi sarracenia. Once again this is an extreme example.
