A new picture is growing, I think it might be just as big or bigger than the other big one

It will probably be a bit bigger. Be sure to cut off the dead leaves, cutting them off decreases the chance of mold or fungus.

I keep getting told not to gut the dead leaves and let the plant do it’s own thing, I keep getting conflicting signals

You could leave them on, but there is a higher chance of mold, fungus, or maybe even a bug infestation(I think they could hide underneath the dead leaves). I also think it looks nicer when you cut the dead leaves off. I have not seen or heard any bad effects of cutting dead leaves off.

There is a difference between trimming off the dead leaves and trimming off dieing or yellowing leaves. If it is brown, cut it down. If it is yellow, let it mellow. (Wow, that is cheesy

)

I agree with Panman, let the browning leaves be. I leave all mine until they are crispy, signaling that the plant has sucked everything (including moisture) out of them. I am not sure how major this is, but it is just the way I do it.
