Further research is showing me that carnivory is more widespread in these types of "plants" than I initially thought.

It is also widespread in cultivation.
It really likes fallen trees, especially Beech.

Negative. Although I have been searching for morels, no luck yet. Might be a hair too early for them in great numbers.

It grows on dead trees themselves, not around them.

Negative. That one grows on caterpillars in the Himalayas, not dead trees in temperate and subtropical forests.

2. We've already established it a carnivorous fungi.

Yes! The oyster mushroom.
In all my years as a Chef, I never knew it was carnivorous. I only knew that it was a flavorful mushroom that held up to simmering sauces, such as the Chicken Cacciatore I mentioned earlier.
