I've been using rain water from my shingled roof for over 12 years with no problems at all for my plants. Just test it with a TDS meter, it should be fine. My rainwater TDS is usually 0-2ppm.

I get over somewhere over 30 gallons from a single ZeroWater filter. But my tap water runs about 65ppm. Just be very careful as you get near the end - once the filter is used up, it will start to deposit the impurities back into the water and you'll actually wind up with a higher ppm than you started with.
