Hello everyone! I am a novice VFT grower. I have one lowly plant sitting on my window sil. This plant, I believe is now out of dormancy. Many of my family members laughed at me when I kept faith the dormant plant would emerge someday! It was looking pretty bad.

Now it is growing and is flowering. My question is that the traps are growing short and compactly in the pot. Please see picture.

What advice would you all give me with the plant at this stage of the growing season.

Welcome to the forums! Your plant is looking suprisingly good considering that it's flowering. Give it the brightest light you can. Make sure the soil is always moist but not soaking. Your plant looks a little dry to me and like it could use some more light. My family members also make fun of my carnivorous plant hobby. They're just jealous that my plants are cooler than theirs

To answer your question, low-lying traps are normal in early spring.

Also, I agree with everything sanguinearocks101 wrote. That is, it looks a little dry. Always keep the surface of the moss at least damp. It also looks like it could use more light. Get it outside in full sun if at all possible.

The fact that it is flowering is unfortunate because it looks a little small and sub-optimally healthy for flowering. The good news is that it should survive just fine if it is provided good care.

One more comment. Thank you Matt! I did water it and moved it out in the backyard with plenty of sun! I am anxious to see how it grows!

OK, great! Watch it closely for sunburn, as in its weakened state, that might be too much for it. Normally flytraps can burn and will just grow out of it but it won't grow much while it is flowering it won't grow much. So be careful not to let it get too much sun and lose all its leaves.
