Hello everybody I am currently trying to grow a vft in Tampa Florida. I wanted to share my experience with this project of mine and hopefully get some advice from all the nice people in the forum.

nice cage for the fly trap. thats a great idea. You could use a tray of water underneath when it gets above 90F. Looks like the cage may keep some bugs out. you dont want fly traps to eat hard shell bugs anyway.
it will need shade when its full Summer. I let mine after morning sunlight, until about 2pm and then shaded. Im in Southeastern NC

Thank you! It hasn't been over 70F for a few days so the substrate hasn't dried out yet. I originally built the cage to keep out squirrels and any curious hands lol. The only thing I'm sorta struggling with is getting enough light. I live in an upstairs apartment so I dont have much space for growing plants outside. The vft only gets around 4 hours of sunlight in the cage, so I've been putting it outside my window to give it a few more hours.

Welcome to the FlytrapCare forums!! That looks like a good growing setup and a great climate you live in for growing flytraps. I expect that Big Mouth to be quite large in another couple of months!

Please post an update from time to time so we can watch it grow :D

That's nothing, a few weeks ago here in Florida it was in the mid-80s with mid-60s at night. It's supposed to get into the 30s tomorrow night, though.

Just makes me crack up at the thought of being able to swim in the middle of winter (and enjoy it)

Those are cold temps for Florida... Brrrrr!! so cold!

OP, your cage looks great. When I saw that lock, I was thinking you made it to keep out other people, not just animals, and then later you said it yourself, you're also keeping out people. Hehe!

Yup cant be too careful with college kids around lol. But here's an update on the plant, it started throwing up a flower stalk! I couldnt believe it, so I looked at it from all angles and yup it was a flower stalk. I cut it to allow the plant to focus all it's energy on growing traps.
