Hello everyone! I'll be documenting growing pitcher plants from seed under different light sources in this thread. First up I'll start with Ace Grows' 45w led light. This light is what's referred to as a blurple led grow light. It has a pinkish purple color.

The light looks well designed, it's lightweight and despite being 45w it's very bright. It doesnt produce much heat at all. Seedlings have just begun to germinate and I have the light about 6 inches above the seedlings.

Hey Eric... thank you for this topic. This is going to be very interesting to watch the outcomes of your growing project. I'm excited to see what lighting works the best.

But I do have a question...what is your putting and planting prep. And how-to on watering to get these guys to germinate in the first place? I have been trying for about a year now to get some different varieties of sarracenia seeds to germinate and grow and have only had maybe 4 or 6 sprouts, give or take.... and no survivors past 6 or7 months.
I'm great at keeping a teenage and adult plants alive.... but I fear that growing from seed and the keeping the wee babes alive is not my forte.
Please help me with some advice.

Thanks

Hello, fellow kentuckian!

Step 1. The seeds need a wet/cold stratification for 4-6 weeks. I just sprinkle them on a moist paper towel and put them in a zip lock baggie then put them in the fridge for 4-6 weeks.

Step 2. Take them out and plant them on 100% peat moss, 100% long fiber sphagnum or a mix of 50/50 peat/perlite or silica sand (pool filter sand).

Step 3. I put my pots with seeds in a 1020 tray and fill it with water.

Step 4. Place them under bright lights or full sun and wait. Germination occurs sporadically over the next few weeks.

Hope this helps!

Here are some seedlings growing under a sansi 35w grow light. Super bright white led light. Seedlings were taken out of stratification on December 15th and still germinating.
