This is an uncommon, hardy hibiscus from Africa. My neighborhood dipped to 17°F a couple years ago, and a plant of this in the ground came back.
This plant grows great around here in dappled shade and stays pretty small — it doesn’t get more than a couple feet tall and wide. Unlike tropical hibiscus or many of the hardy US-native ones, the flowers on lemon rosemallow aren’t gigantic — but they’re still maybe 3" or 4" across.
It’s a pretty neat plant, and I think that if you live somewhere where the soil doesn’t freeze in the winter, you can probably grow it.
There was a leaf on top of this flower that prevented it from opening properly, but it’s still really pretty.
