Hell everyone, I have set up my mini bog outside our new flat. It has lots of bugs arund so I think plants will be very happy here and there is enough light. Only thing that concerns me is the watering the top dried out relatively quickly but it was either that or poor drainage. I think I am going to incest in an RO system hooked up to my garden watering system which will only be for the bog. It still has Only a few plants but this is yust a start.

You want fairly bad drainage really, if it is drying out it quickly it may not be deep enough, how deep is it? But I see what you mean the edges do look drier.
Good luck

The ground is covered in plastic for water garden and such with three small holes like half an inch in diameter. The base is clay so in theory it shouldn't dry to qick. The top is drying bit the bottom where the roots are is moist. Now my problema are local cats. They like to take a dump as the medium is loose. Have to make a cage around them...
Edit: it is around 20" deep

Sounds like it should be fine, if its wet underneath that is good for growth.

I can only imagine the frustration the cats cause by dumping in your garden! One would think that would also act as a fertilizer and kill the traps.
I'm debating on setting up a mini bog container when I repot my VFTs later this week, they've done so well in their current plastic pots it might just be best to leave well enough alone

Catwars part II.
So as they found my mini bog to be an excellent dumping ground, I unearthed several of their presents and covered everything with agricurtural geotextille. We will se how do they like it now. Also, it should keep the humidity in the mix when it gets warmer and drier. I will probably cover it later with smaller pebles.

Catwars part III - so far so good. After putting the agricurtural textile the cats have given up. No New presents, digged up plants, just their sad look in their eyes as they pass by to find another soft spot to put their presents in. The plants look god, o e of them is starting to grow a flower stalk which I will cut when it is 2" inch long.

No cat problema up to date. The weather is still tricky so the CP's still haven't started their real growth period although there are two flower emerging.

Looks fairly typical for plants outdoors in cool spring weather.
How porous is the geotextile/does it allow good gas exchange between the air and the medium? My thought is that the gas production from the wet medium may not get released effectively and oxygen may not get to the roots as effectively.

The textile i specificaly made for plants, something about 100 g/m (not construction geotextille) so it should provide decent aeration withouth rapid loos of moist ure when in full sin do i think iz will be good. No negative changes have been observed after I put it on the medija so far. This was about three weeks ago.
Only "downside" so far bod having my VFT's outside is that all the traps are beeing occupied in a day or so after beeing open :) .
