how about 100% perlite ?

If both peat and perlite are avaible do a 50/50 mix.

Seeing a you've done it during the end of winter right before spring it should be ok, just monitor it and give it a sunlight and it'll be ok, plants are tough.

Why not just buy sphagnum?
