I've been growing ~ 15 VTFs indoors on our windowsills for 4 years now. About 1/3 of them are seed grown, and the other half were rehomed to me by friends who had purchased them in big box stores but found them difficult to keep alive. Those guys were in pretty hard shape when they arrived but are bouncing back.
We're in Nova Scotia, Canada, zone 5, and our windows are south facing. We live completely off-grid, and our solar system can't handle the drain of grow lights. (I did try some sunblaster LEDs for a few weeks last year to expand my growing area, but according to our batteries it was like having a second fridge.)
We have a lovely yard, but I like having my CP's indoors where I can see them all the time, and they find a surprising amount of insects to eat on their own. We also feed them TONS of ticks in the spring/summer that are brought in on our clothes and on the dog. I put them into dormancy in the basement.
The sundews and nepenthes live upstairs year round.
I know outdoors is generally best, but I wanted to share my indoor, windowsill, cat-infested CP family to let people know it is possible.

These guys are on a shelf a few feet away from direct sun and they seem to love it.

We have four indoor cats running around. Sometimes they trigger the traps, but such is life.
