I tried it with some red capensis (about 24) and i only had 5 germinate which perished as soon as I took them out of the water. I've had the seeds under grow lights for 3 months now so don't think there are going to be any more sprouts. Had more luck soaking for a day then sowing in peat.

I had very similar results with my S. Leucophylla water stratification. I stratified for 2 1/2 - 3 months in the fridge, I only got 1 to germinate out of 10-13 seeds.

I will stick with water germination for VFT and sundews though, I got great results from both of those. Around 8 out of 10 for vft, and idk like 90% for sundews (not 100% sure on that number, im not counting all those seeds. lol)

Water stratification worked wonders for my rotundifolia seeds — I got great germination within a week of sowing them. Idk how many seeds I planted, but it’s looks like 70-80% at at minimum. It’s certainly easier than trying to stratify those tiny seeds in LFS or peat!

Here's some update data on Water Germination of temperate species.

Drosera anglica, temperate form from ICPS Seed Bank.
16 x 100 mm glass test tube, 50% filled with distilled water.
Seeds went into stratification 2/18/2019.
Stratification temperature 34 Deg F.
Test tube was shaken and agitated daily.
Seeds came out of stratification 4/18/2019.
Seeds observed germinating 5/1/2019 13 days.

Did you have germination in every tube? So far I've only had about 25% success rate with water germination, and then I always kill the seedlings :(

I've had excellent results germinating Drosera in test tubes.
I've had bad results germinating Sarracenia and Pinguicula in test tubes.

I've tried several techniques for transferring germinated seeds to media.
I tried just dumping out the test tubes as soon as I saw one seed split open with that initial taproot.
I tried leaving the plantlets in the test tube until they were 1/4 inch tall.

The best results were when I dumped the test tube into a glass bowl when at least half of the seeds germinated.
I then used an eyedropper to slurp up individual seeds/plantlets from the bowl.
I could then deposit them precisely anywhere I wanted in their pot.
After putting them in their pots, I usually dome or bag them for 2 - 4 weeks.
I've also used standard 10x20 nursery trays with clear raised covers for the same effect.

Huntsmanshorn wrote:If you don't mind my asking, what germination rate did you get on those linearis seeds you did last year?
I had little or no germination on D. linearis.
The seeds I tried came from Europe and I don't know how old they were or how they were stored.
I don't recall if I tried it again with fresher seeds.

D. linearis is a problem child for me.
It should grow fine outdoors for me, it doesn't.
It is native to this area, I think some grows wild in Cedarburg Bog, about 30 miles North of me.

I hear you, I'm in the exact same boat. Supposedly they grow naturally somewhere up in Jefferson county around Busseyville but around here they grow very poorly for me.
