First flower on one of my Byblis gigantea. I am very pleased. Waiting for the rest of my gigantea to follow suit, and then seeds will follow. This marks a very special occasion for me in all my years as a grower. It has to flower first though. This is one moment that I am very happy about. I am both thankful that many growers that pushed me into this genus. To that I say thank you.

Ya done good, man!

There's a big rush when you get that first flower on a hard to grow or hard to find (or both) species.

I always wanted this one. When I was first learning about CP, I read that Byblis gigantea was capable of sometimes capturing squirrels and rabbits. That was from Randall Schwartz's 1974 book "Carnivorous Plants" on page 50.

Yea, there was a lot of incorrect info floating around in books back then too.

Good growing,
Mike

That is interesting. Sad that theres very limited info on the perennial Byblis as is. I have enough notes in my journals though to create an entire book on this plant in particular. Now I'm going to have to order this book you speak of just to read it.

Thank you. During my program, I will be donating a portion of the seeds here to the forum where they will be a class III seed. I want to give as many people as I can the opportunity to grow the plant, and to help further establish its populations in the US. This is my main focus. I still have another phase to complete the process with gigantea though, and just a little bit longer to wait, but when I am finished, I will be ready to share what I am able. I am looking forward to it.

I just ordered a second-hand copy of that book from ABEbooks.com. My local library used to carry it but that was many many many many years ago. So I went out and spent $8 or so on the book, at least this way I'll have it in my collection to look at and chuckle. I'll photocopy the byblis pages or scan them and send them to you for your entertainment.

Good growing,
Mike
