Hi everyone,

So this was my first dormancy ever with VFTs. I read a lot and saw pictures that VFTs when they go dormant, almost all of their traps die off and that the rhizome and roots can freeze, so I prepared a special box, insulated with styrofoam and pine needles etc. However my plants' only sign of dormancy was that the new growth stopped growing, just stayed small for the whole winter, some of the traps died, but just a few and the rest of the plants looked pretty much normal (green, just not growing).

Now it's becoming warm again and they woke up, growth starts to be noticeable, but now some of my traps get strange black spots on the leaves or traps and die off. I notice it's mostly on the old ones that didn't die off before winter, but my Whale is becoming yellow on the leave and brown near the rhizome and i accidentally pulled one of the traps while pulling out some weed and it went out just so easy, then i tried with another - same thing. I am afraid it is dying and it's a baby plant.

EDIT: I am in the netherlands
EDIT 2: Oh, and the traps that open on BIMBO open strangely - just half of them, why is that? I noticed that the traps that open only in half, and stay closed at the other end, they die
Can you please advise me on the above questions? below are some photos:

1. Whale - you can see the color difference with my Cupped traps below

2. Bimbo (my precious) - I hope he survives, he's my first and big love :( The trap with the huge heart-shaped leaf is new growth, but is now drying?! I don't know why

3. Red Line - it was HUGE when it came to me, but the huge traps died and there are lots of new growth, but I am worried there may be some disease on them, because the leaves are kind of "curly" and i don't know..

They look O.K. to me, I see new traps coming up. That's a new trap on the Whale right? Give them more time to wake up.

it doesn't seem to be growing, i can see the new growth getting bigger on the other VFTs, but not on the Whale. Also 2 of the newly growing traps of Whale are with black tips, so i expect for them to die in the next few days.

Take out the Whale and check the bulb. If it's firm and white it should be fine.

I agree with Tommyr, they all look fine to me. Some grow faster than others. Some are more sensitive that others. When a Fly Trap comes out of dormancy the leaves can look really weird until it adjusts to springtime and new growth.
The only thing I see is a little green algae growing and that's usually a sign that it's getting too much water( or not enough air circulating) And I don't know if you flushed the darker peat soil but a few started with black Traps but now look healthy and that is either too much water or too many nutrients in the soil.
Overall I think they look normal and healthy and will grow up just fine.

For Bimbo the leaves and traps look all kind of dry, like lacking moisture and "greenness" in the traps and leaves. What can cause this? I don't water them yet, just spray them with water so it goes around the rhizome, but doesn't get the medium wet.

In Bimbo all, but the new growth (so 2-3 little traps) seem to be dry, never seen this before. For the medium, i have flushed it before I put them in there, but haven't done it after. Do you mean I should somehow do it now?

i took these pictures around 12-13h, now after the day is over the heart-shaped leaf seems more dry and the black trap is more black, is it possible that the plant is getting too MUCH sun?
