Someone on facebook is trying to argue with me that its dormant. Like anythings growing from that again.

Ordered some flytrap seeds though so hopefully ill have lots of little traps everywhere soon!

A dormant VFT will have a white bulb beneath the soil.

I agree. Even if it looks dead, if you feel the rhizome and its still hard, you might have a chuck of white rhizome hidden in there, but that Fly Trap is history. RIP little fly trap.

Im disappointed it died. It was housewarming gift from a friend. Going to give it another bash though!

Thanks. Thats what figured itd be like if it was dormant. Even if all the foilage above ground had died due to adverse weather etc, the roots would still be healthy?

I would imagine the roots would not deteriorate like above ground leaves might

What happens is if the top leaves get severely damaged, it weakens the plant and gives opportunity for bugs and diseases to attack the plant. I would try very hard to not damage the plant like that. If you do you would be better off cleaning off the dead and repotting it.

I use Bonide Sulphur fungicide. The plants stay in their pots. When they come out in February/March I re-pot any that need to be re-potted.

Here in zone 12B Hawaii, it never cools down, but we are still in the northern part of the tropics so the daylight is slightly less than it was during the summer. It does appear that on especially my larger traps, they are starting to progressively produce smaller and smaller traps that are even shorter as days gets shorter, and it's not quite as hot, still averaging about 70F-82F these days.

Do these plants look like they are going dormant, or will they need to be stored in the refrigerator?

DCXL definitely has smaller traps that are growing much slower than they grew over the hottest part of summer.


Some of my SD Kronos are turning more and more red

I think they will go dormant just fine regardless of temp. What I would do is let them get 6-8 hrs of sunlight and the rest of the day shade.

Do you guys top water your plants when they're dormant?
