Quick question for the forum. I know it is said that, in general, the green forms of vfts grow fastest but is there a vigorous growing all red verity of vft? If not, whats the best/fastest grower. Thanks!

I have read that Green Dragon is one of the best red ones out there. It is supposed to be a very vigorous grower for a red VFT. Hopefully the FTS will offer them this year.

I have had good growth on both Red Piranha and FTS Crimson Sawtooth. I've not had FTS Maroon Monster long enough to see how vigorous it is.

FTS Maroon Monster is generally regarded as the most vigorous red-leaved VFT. But my Royal Red, Crimson Sawtooth and Archangel have also performed nicely for me. I wouldn’t recommend Red Dragon or Pink Venus at all though.

Thanks for the input guys. Of the all red verities I've only ever grown Red Dragon, I'll have to give some of the others a try.

Yeah I agree, red dragon aka Akai Ryu has been a consistently poor grower for me. My Pink Venus has continued to grow very well though, even when the other red cultivars dropped dead during a spider mite outbreak a few years back.

I can't speak on any reds other than Maroon Monster, but it is quite vigorous. In one season mine went from one mature plant to three mature plants and probably 10 immature divisions, and that's with a one month stall around August.
